Nreal Light AR glasses now available in the US through Verizon

Augmented reality or AR, sometimes called mixed reality or MR, is one of the holy grails in the computing industry, not only because of its entertainment value but the potential for productivity too. Unlike how much VR requires a lot of adjuating your vision completely, Ar Headgear is capable of being lighter and more comfortable than the big VR headset, and that’s a proposition made with glasses that finally towards the US to the US. Previously promised.

There are several players in the AR headset market, with Hololens Microsoft being one of the first commercially launched, at least for corporate customers and developers. Despite some delays and controversies, Magic Leap finally joined the commotion. Apple is expected to target this special market, maybe next year with a preliminary dev kit.

Meanwhile, Nreal’s light offers another alternative in what it is claimed to be AR glasses ready for the first US consumer. It certainly looks like glasses that are rather thick instead of an ordinary headset associated with mixed reality. According to the specification sheet, the nreal lights are only 106g lights, even though they pack some hardware such as spatial audio speakers and sensors for 6dof (six degrees of freedom) tracking.

Of course, it means that the glasses themselves don’t have hardware to really process and provide an AR experience. It comes from a paired smartphone, such as the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold 3, or Oneplus 8 5G UW, connected via a USB-c cable. On the side of the software, the NREAL lights are launched with 17 original AR-applications such as Hunter ghosts, table trenches, and Magician Mystery, available from the Google Play Store.
